The Light of Family Council

When the word council is brought up, many may connect a negative connotation with it. However, when conducted the right way, it can bring enormous blessings and light to a family.  When we go into a family council, it is important to begin by expressing love and concern to everyone in the family. Talk a little, laugh a little. Don't make the word "council" scare you into being quiet and anxious. Councils are supposed to be\ a good experience!

Usually the patriarch of the home, the father will open the family council meeting with a warm welcome. It is important to then open with a prayer. This invites the spirit to be present, and to help each individual feel inspiration that might come pertaining to them or their family; especially concerning specific worries, problems, or decisions that family is facing at the time.

After this, the father and mother can express what's on the agenda. What needs to be addressed concerning the decisions, worries, etc which I mentioned above. Each person in the family then should have a turn voicing their opinions and feelings, and what they may feel might be enlightening to add to the council. As each person gets a turn, they feel as though they can express and that everyone with listen with love and understanding. This helps the spirit in turn speak to each person and witness to them what is true concerning the matter discussed.

When the family comes to a consensus; that is a unanimous decision each agrees on and is happy about, they can move onto the next issue or whatever the father and mother feel is important to address. When this is finished, the family can then close with a prayer of gratitude that the spirit was there, and for the inspiration they received to help each other figure out what is best for their family. After which, dessert! This may seem silly, but it actually brings the family together once more in love, concern and happiness. It's a chance to literally refresh and bond together.

Family councils, when done in truth and light, can greatly help a family grow closer together and feel unified in every decision.
